Engagement Rate Calculator
Type in your numbers and see your engagement rate instantly, judged against the benchmark for accounts your size rather than a one-size-fits-all rule.
Include these if you have Insights access — brands prefer the fuller number.
How engagement rate is calculated
(likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ followers × 100. This is the follower-based rate, and it is the number brands ask for when they cannot see your Insights. If you do have Insights, a reach-based rate (the same top line divided by reach instead of followers) is more flattering and more accurate — but harder for a brand to verify.
What counts as a good engagement rate?
It depends entirely on your size. Small accounts naturally engage far harder than large ones, so the same 2.5% is excellent at 500K followers and mediocre at 500.
- Under 1,000 followers: 4-8% is healthy
- 1K-10K: 3-6%
- 10K-100K: 2-4%
- 100K-1M: 1.5-3%
- Over 1M: 1-2%
How do I improve it?
- Post when your audience is actually awake — check your Insights for the peak hour.
- Reply to every comment in the first hour. Early comment velocity is what most feeds reward.
- Ask one specific question in the caption. "Which one?" beats "thoughts?"
- Use Reels or Shorts for reach, carousels and stories for depth.
- Buying fake followers destroys this number permanently. Do not.
